the story of the dashbr

In the late summer of 2000, I was reflecting on ways to reinforce the spirit of teamwork among the dash software development group and to show my pride of their work. In the midst of many different projects and priorities, I was struck with the quick thought that one way to show commitment to the cause would be to get an appropriate license plate. Not another t-shirt or sticker---I'd get something far more impactful.
So I spent a few minutes researching the process, made a call to the RMV, and placed my order for the best six-letter fit I could find. I was told that my plates would be ready in several weeks and I put it out of my mind.
Months pass. Turmoil and uncertainty hit our industry.
In the most appropriate fit of irony, I arrive home from my last day as an employee at dash in early 2001 to find the notice from the RMV that my brand new plates are ready.
Never to be deterred, I picked up my plates with pride. I took them [and my Jetta] with me as I set out for my two month drive from Boston to Los Angeles and back. See a few of the dashbr's stops along the way...

+ the dashbr out west | it's all about commitment |.
